Bank account

In Italy, it is possible to open a bank account if you are at least 18 years old, and it is not necessary to be an Italian citizen.
Even if you are not officially a resident in Milano, you can open a basic current account that allows you to receive salary, have a debit card, and a payment card that can also be used online.
- EU ID/Passport
- Tax code (certificate or card)
- Residence permit card or application receipt (if applicable)
If you want to open bank accounts other than the basic one, then you’ll need to provide, depending on each bank policies, additional documents such as proof of employment (e.g., work contract or recent pay stubs), residence registration certificate or Italian ID, proof of address, proof of income, etc.
Not all banks offer the same services for international professionals. Look for banks with English-language online banking platforms and customer service. Some banks might even have specific accounts designed for expats, often with features like lower fees for international transfers or debit cards that work abroad.
While some banks might allow opening an account online, it's generally recommended to schedule an appointment with a representative who can guide you through the process and answer any questions you might have.
