March in Milan
All the must-see events this month

March in Milan is a blossoming of initiatives involving the whole city. From the party at MIND, it's on to the Streets of Art between extraordinary openings of MuseoCity, new exhibitions and itineraries in Art Deco. And to get moving, there is always the Stramilano.
Spring kicks off with a brand-new Olympic countdown: March 6th marks exactly one year to the start of the Paralympic Winter Games, and to celebrate the special occasion in style, OnLocation, the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games official hospitality partner, has organized a party for the entire city! From 20:30 to 23:30 at the Big Theatre in MIND (Milano Innovation District) partygoers can dance to the music of Voglio Tornare negli Anni 90, Il Pagante and DJs Merk & Kremont. A great opportunity to get together and experience all the fun on the city's journey to Milano Cortina 2026.

With the 15th edition on the horizon, it’s a chance to look back to the debut of the Winter Games in1924, held in Chamonix, in the French Alps, in a historical period of great cultural ferment. The années folles, the Roaring Twenties, which redefined fashions, trends and every aspect of the art and traditions of the time and, with the help of the 1925 Paris Expo, endorsed the triumph of Art Déco and Italian decorative arts.
A decade full of dreams, euphoria and revitalisation that infiltrated all the main European cities, to which Palazzo Reale, in its centenary year, dedicates the Art Déco exhibition. The museum spaces feature a succession of extraordinary examples by Gio Ponti for Richard Ginori ceramics, alongside creations by artists, artisans and architects who marked the birth of Italian design.
Milan’s Art Déco itinerary spills over from Palazzo Reale to the Castello Sforzesco’s Museum of Decorative Arts which will host a selection of porcelain by Gio Ponti from the Ginori Museum in Sesto Fiorentino for the entire duration of the art exhibition. On March 23rd and April 27th, a jewel of Milanese Art Déco, the Padiglione Reale (Royal Pavilion) at the Central Station, will hold a special opening for the public, and will also be the starting point for guided tours organized by 24 ORE Cultura to discover buildings, interiors and architectural details of the period (at 10:00 and at 14:00 - free upon reservation: +39 02.54912 - ticket24ore.it).
To complete the journey into Art Deco, from March 7th to May 4th, Cineteca Milano will show the Art Déco - I film exhibition at the Arlecchino cinema.
Villa Necchi Campiglio also combines rationalism and Art Déco on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March by presenting Soffio di Primavera, a wonderful exhibition of plants and garden products curated by FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano. Spring is the perfect time to roll up your sleeves with workshops and theoretical-practical courses.
Furthermore, on 22nd and 23rd March, Fondo Ambiente Italiano returns with the Giornate di Primavera event, two days of cultural and landscape heritage in which it opens the doors of the numerous historic sites that it curates all year round. The perfect way to mark its birthday because FAI (The Italian National Trust) is celebrating 50 years in 2025.
Spring is in the air and Milan is blooming! With the arrival of the warmer season, it is time to discover colourful corners of the city and open-air masterpieces.
On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March: Floralia will transform Piazza San Marco into a floral meadow. The flowers & plants market with garden furnishings and household objects takes place twice a year, in autumn and spring, in the churchyard and cloisters of the San Marco church in the heart of Brera. The proceeds are donated to the Centro di Solidarietà San Marco, a non-profit organization dedicated to young people and adults providing hospitality, support and social reintegration.
The BAM Biblioteca degli alberi concludes the month on March 30th with the traditional Spring Festival which, this year, brings with it the scent of the lovely new rose garden that will be inaugurated on the same date. COMMUNICABLE FROM MARCH 5TH
With Spring in the air, new exhibitions bloom in Milan. Mudec turns 10 and celebrates the occasion with an extensive program of initiatives - live paintings, workshops, and exhibitions - linked by the theme of travel. Commencing on March 20th with the inauguration of two exhibitions: TRAVELOGUE. Stories of journeys, migrations and diasporas, and MURALISTAS. A Journey from muralism to street art.
Then art lovers can easily travel from Mudec to Japan in just a few metro stops. From March 27th to July 27th, 2025, Pirelli HangarBicocca will host ICARUS, the first major European retrospective dedicated to Yukinori Yanagi. The Japanese artist returns to Italy after 32 years with recontextualizations of some of his most significant and monumental installations, key works that intertwine past and present, destruction and rebirth. Known for his monumental installations and his critical gaze, he offers insights on issues of nationalism, globalisation and technology. The exhibition title evokes the myth of Icarus, a cautionary message that invites us to reflect on the dangers of over confidence in technology. An immersive journey through iconic works and new creations, that examine the transformative power of art.
The Strade dell’Arte project in Milan also welcomes MuseoCity. From March 2nd to 8th, the event returns to the city with seven days dedicated to art with a program of events and activities spread out between 140 museums and cultural sites. Not to be missed are guided tours, immersive meetings, fascinating experiences and children’s workshops.
How can you resist Milan’s Carnival, where the celebrations last four days longer than the rest of Italy? The Milanese are serious about their Ambrosian Carnival, celebrated with all the pomp of tradition, colourful costumes, confetti and the sugary aroma of chiacchiere and tortelli.
As per tradition, on March 26th, the Stramilano returns to the city streets. Both professional runners and those who just want to test their sporting prowess can participate. Runners set their own pace, no competitions, just the pleasure of getting moving and rediscovering the city. Departure from Piazza Duomo for the 5 and 10 km, from Piazza Castello for the complete 21 km race, depending on the distance you opt for.
From March 19th to 23rd, 2025, Milan will host the second edition of the SOUL Festival of Spirituality, promoted by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and the Archdiocese of Milan. This year's central theme, Fiducia, la trama del noi, (Lit: Trust, the fabric of us), will focus on over 60 events spread across the city, with the participation of circa 90 exceptional protagonists comprising philosophers, writers, theologians, scientists and artists. The event will explore trust in all its facets, through meetings, lectio magistralis, theatrical performances, concerts and experiential moments such as monastic suppers and dawn meditations on the Duomo Terraces. The writer David Grossman will open the Festival on March 19th at the Università Cattolica. A special section, SOUL Young, will give voice to young people under 30 with workshops and performances.
To participate in the events, reservations are required on the official website
