DESIGN WEEK 2025: Porta Romana - Navigli - Darsena - Tortona
Not to be missed events

Trendy Tortona is one of Milano’s design districts par excellence. A neighbourhood that proudly lays claim to its industrial roots that are comfortably in sync with its more noble heritage. Historic buildings juxtapose with revamped factories that are now cool showrooms, museums and ateliers.
Superstudio Più is one of the undisputed protagonists of the Milano Design Week; it was a pioneer in bringing the event into the area, and to have made it into an entertaining and fascinating city-wide phenomenon, both for design aficionados and non.
25 design years have passed since the concept of an exhibition district made its debut: to mark this quarter of a century the SuperDesign Show celebrates with the Unforgettable - 25 years of design at Superstudio exhibition, dedicated to the excellence of Made in Italy and all the international designers who have made its history.
For this edition the Superdesign Show will host over 70 artists from 3 continents showcasing 10 interactive projects. HAPPINESS is the keyword of the year but also the manifesto of the event, thanks to the vibrant artwork created by the graphic artist Daniele Cima.
The next-generation A-Un and Discover Together interactive installations by Lexus excel for their futuristic vocation, which push human-machine interaction far beyond the boundaries of the imaginable. The immersive experience by Geberit, WHERE WATER MEETS DESIGN, is an ode to the vital energy of water and the extraordinary benefits that human well-being can derive from this essential resource with cutting-edge solutions.
Several entities join forces to create, inviting and increasingly green worlds through design. The results of this groundbreaking alliance of the collectives can be seen at the Urban Reflection exhibition by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association, which brings together traditional craftsmanship and modern design through the use of ancient practices and recycled materials; the Slow Hand Design Thailand 2025 and FRONT 100 exhibitions by the Department of International Trade Promotion and Thailand Creative Culture Agency presents Thai artefacts that originate from a culture that knows how to smile in the face of adversity, and The Scale of Commitment by Materially, which pays homage to the production of increasingly sustainable materials. Discover the Happy Objects, one-of-a-kind pieces in which big brands sum up their own original concept of Happiness.
An extraordinary constellation of other brands also offers their contribution to the search for Happiness, with evocative installations that stimulate a plurality of senses.
Fashion, design and architecture enjoy a tête-à-tête in the FLA FlavioLucchiniArt Museum, which welcomes visitors with its artist collection and two immersive experiences that aim to prompt critical reflection. Voluptas (HUB161) presents a journey into Italian beauty and sensuality, while Facades - Order in Chaos (THE LAB) raises questions about the reality of contemporary urban life.
Plus… round tables and meetings with artists, experts and writers.
BASE also grabs the moment to take stock of the strategies to be implemented to live a happier and more balanced life; it calls together 11 Italian and international universities, 39 designers and welcomes 5 residency projects. From April 7th to 13th the experimental laboratory We Will Design - Making Kin stages exhibitions, meetings and installations to investigate and instigate the construction of unconventional kinships theorized by Donna Haraway, the philosopher and activist recognized as one of the most distinguished intellectuals of our time.
The universities’ initiatives are fascinating: worth a mention are DO YOU SPEAK FLOWER?, in which the activism of HEAD – Genève, Geneva University of Art and Design is expressed in floral guises, and the project by the Technical University of Zvolen, which takes inspiration from trees to envisage healthier work environments.
UNFOLD by Domus Academy makes a comeback, choosing the theme of Reaffirm Design for 2025: a research project that involved students from twelve universities in a trifocal investigation into contemporary design (Design of Resistance, with Agency, for Reappropriation), the results of which will be shared with the public in the Post-Utopian Light Production and Tracked&Sold presentations.
The EXHIBIT area of BASE displays the works of several designers who, inspired by the behaviour of other living beings or by reinventing everyday objects, propose tangible ideas with a view to ‘making kin’: spanning from joysticks to manage anxiety to jewellery designed to enhance wounds and scars.
Five artists have won the privilege of an artistic residency in the Temporary Home. The names of three are already known: Anas Chao presents a project that brings the sense of ‘home’ back to restaurants and places of food consumption; Kairos Futura challenges those present to reinvent their own identity to win biocitizenship; Mitre and Mondays offer immersive experiences to experiment with new forms of citizenship.
In the Ground Hall, the installation by visual artist Matilde Cassani uses long PVC rugs and mattresses to invite everyone to experience Another Week, a changeable format with renewed spatiality in the spirit of conviviality and relaxation, essential for meeting-up and building healthy and collaborative relationships.
The Performing Architecture festival - a collab between BASE and DOPO? - acts as a bridge between Art Week and Design Week with the aim of stimulating conversation between the Corvetto, Chiaravalle, Stadera, Barona and Tortona neighbourhoods. With meetings, workshops and installations, Architecture rethinks the role of urban spaces and creates new connections between generations and city areas that were previously distant.
The format that Tortona Rocks has chosen to mark its tenth anniversary is Unframed Design: an invitation to break the mould, to give space to creative freedom in all its forms. A design that, as an alternative to providing answers, aims to max out research and intuition…all in the name of fun.
Opificio 31, the event's headquarters, hosts some of the most sensational proposals of this 2025 edition.
In collaboration with Seletti, here IQOS goes really big: Curious X: Sensorium Piazza is a dynamic environment that actually incorporates the public as part of the experience: visitors transform the appearance of the structure that surrounds them by interacting with digital installations, at the same time their expressions constitute pieces of a collective memory that celebrates human connections.
Iridescent surfaces, shimmery materials and reflections welcome visitors on this immersive journey by Archiproducts Milano: À.RIA. A medium for connection, thanks to the participation of 50 international brands, creating new links between space and society, renewing the concept of interior design in a fluid and multisensory way.
Saint Laurent enters the world of design with a tribute to Charlotte Perriand, a pioneer of modern architecture and a leading figure in the evolution of living space. Curated by the maison's creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, the project does not limit itself to exhibiting historical pieces, but opens a dialogue between Perriand's modernist vision and Saint Laurent's contemporary aesthetic.
The exhibition is a significant cultural restitution, bringing back to life a selection of emblematic furnishings signed by Perriand. Vaccarello chose these pieces in collaboration with the Fondation Cassina and its historical archive, bringing to light four masterpieces designed between 1943 and 1967 that were never realised or remained at prototype level. On display for the first time in a limited edition are: the Canapé de la Résidence de l'Ambassadeur du Japon à Paris, the Bibliothèque Rio de Janeiro, the Table Mille-Feuilles - which existed until now only as a maquette on the designer's desk - and the Fauteuil Visiteur Indochine, designed during his stay in Asia.
Not just a homage: Vaccarello reinterprets Perriand's legacy, creating a marriage between the designer's iconic past and the modernity of Saint Laurent design.
IKEA’s message is a simple recipe made of small daily gestures.
IKEA also participates in the Milano Design Week with a ‘double exhibition’, in which it marks the debut of its new collection and also celebrates its significant commitment to accessible design.
The special collection, revealed as a world preview to visitors during the Design Week, combines tradition and innovation without ever renouncing the democratic mission that the Swedish brand proudly upholds.
The Do something. Change everything exhibition focuses on the themes of social and environmental responsibility. Created by Midori Hasuike and Emerzon, thanks to the intervention of creatives and performers, the space tells the story of the impact of gestures and small daily choices on the well-being of the planet and all its inhabitants.
