Roberto was the founder of UBM – Urban Bike Messengers, the first bike courier company in Milano, a job that had him pedal all across the city and develop an intimate feeling and privileged perspective on the city: while riding your bike, you cannot fail to glance at the courtyards, the buildings, the venues, the mix of people.

Today he is among the founding members of Upcycle (Via Andrea Maria Ampère, 59), a former garage that has been reconverted into a bicycle café and a coworking space.

Upcycle is a place where you can eat and drink well, and find initiatives related to cycling and sustainable mobility. There are talks and book presentations and every month there is the presentation of a personal story: individuals discussing a particular bike model or a famous bicycle manufacturer, bike travelers telling their adventures and frame builders showing their innovations, and more.

Lambrate Roberto's favorite neighborhood. It goes from Parco Lambro to its historical center, Viale Rimembranze di Lambrate and the charming bistros and artisan workshops around Via Conte Rosso and Via Ventura.

The restaurant not to be missed

Trattoria Mirta (Piazza S. Materno 12), for excellent traditional cuisine, a careful choice of ingredients and a curated wine list.

An independent theater

Roberto recommends Spazio Teatro No'hma (Via Orcagna, 2), a space that offers experimental theater and dance theater, choirs and classical plays. The theater is located in an old water sanitization plant. Admission is free.

The bike repair shop

Roberto recommends Iamo Bici, the shop of a mechanic and cyclist, Alessandro Iamone (Via Amadeo 39). A single shop window that actually conceals the great competence of this cyclist who honed his skills in the DIY repair shops around the city (ciclofficine popolari). The place has few but very high-quality bikes, and offers repair services both to those who pedal on a daily basis to commute to work and fetch the kids at school, and those who need high-level technical services for riding trips across the mountains and along the rivers.
