DESTINATIONS OF CHAMPIONS
Milano connection to sports

Milano has played a major role in a wide range of sports, too.
Football obviously, but also basketball, volleyball, tennis and cycling - with unrivalled clubs and athletes.
Names of the calibre of Van Basten, Ibrahimovic and Shevchenko for AC Milan and Ronaldo and Bergomi for Inter, as well as the great volleyball player Paola Egonu, not to mention the legendary cyclist Fausto Coppi, and the NBA star Danilo Gallinari and tennis Number One Jannik Sinner, to name just a few... All sportspeople whose biographies contain one-of-a-kind stories about their sports and records, giving us the perfect opportunity to explore Milano’s sporting meccas in their company.
Welcome to the Meazza Stadium, home to one of Italy’s most important derbies - and more: AC Milan and Inter (with a dedicated museum too).
Two historic multi-award-winning clubs, thanks to champions like Van Basten, Ibrahimovic, Shevchenko and Ronaldo (authors of the books ‘Fragile’, ‘Adrenaline’, ‘La forza gentile’ and ‘Romanzo di un amore tradito’).
The Meazza Stadium will also be hosting the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Games.

Our sports map also features the Allianz Cloud arena in Piazza Stuparich, where teams such as Allianz Vero Volley play, with the stellar volleyball player Paola Egonu (co-author of the book “18 segreti per diventare stelle”) - an athlete whose achievements include the world record of a 116 km/h smash - and also the place where Jannik Sinner won the final of the NextGen ATP in 2019 (and he never looked back).
The arena can be visited for events only
How to get there:

An arena with a historic past: the Vigorelli name is inextricably linked with the champion of champions Fausto Coppi (the book “Il suo nome è Fausto Coppi” is dedicated to him): he set several world records on its almost 400-metre track - as would other top cyclists later, such as Moser, Olmo and Baldini.
The Velodrome is also close to CityLife: a modern part of the city and a place to be explored and experienced to the full.
How to get there:
Metro: Domodossola
Overground public transport: 48, 78
The street courts where kids become champions. Like Danilo Gallinari. From nearby town Lodi to Milano and the courts in Viale Lazio and Via Dezza (not far from the buzzing Porta Romana and Solari districts) and the Olimpia Milano team - right up to the NBA, where he has played for some of the most famous teams. Gallinari has also written a book: “NBA, Non Basta l’Altezza”.
Courts always open
