Piano City Milano 2024 returns on May 17th, 18th and 19th! This piano festival has been the city’s summer soundtrack and has grown in harmony with all the changes in Milano, since 2011.

Over 270 unmissable concerts will be held throughout the city, featuring more than 300 artists performing in 150 splendid locations, to entertain and connect with the public through the enticing notes of the piano.

The concerts, ranging from classical to pop, jazz and electronics, will resonate throughout entire neighbourhoods, both old and new, in cultural landmarks, in areas undergoing regeneration and in venues that will open their doors to the public, especially for this occasion.

As per tradition, the GAM – Galleria d'Arte Moderna gardens become the beating heart of the festival which, between the main stage and the park, will resonate with non-stop music for all three days.

INAUGURATION OF PIANO CITY AT GAM

Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus - Friday, May 17th at 21:30 - GAM

This year’s Piano City gets under way with a mesmerising screening of Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus on May 17th, at 21:30, taking place on the main stage in the Galleria d’Arte Moderna’s garden.

This astounding film, directed by his son Neo Sora, gives us a front-row seat at the great composer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s last ever concert before he passed away in March 2023. Having premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, it’s a celebration of the maestro’s life and work. Without uttering a word, he tells his life story through twenty compositions specially chosen by the late composer which, together, represent the passing of time from dawn until dusk.

Free admission subject to availability.

THE HEART OF THE FESTIVAL: CONCERTS AT GAM

The Galleria d’Arte Moderna’s gardens are the centre stage around which the festival takes place. On Saturday and Sunday, concerts will feature across two stages from 10:30 onwards while headline performances will be hosted on the main stage in the evenings.

Omar Sosa and Marialy Pacheco will then take the stage with original compositions and jazz before Costanza Principe returns at 23:00 with Federico Nicoletta for Rhapsody in Blue, played on two pianos. The evening concludes with Mezerg’s mesmerising electronic music, perfect for a star-lit party.

The following evening, May 19th, begins with Marco Mezquida’s original compositions at 20:00 before delving into the sophisticated jazz of Jamie Saft. At 22:00, don’t miss the wizardry of keyboard legend Rick Wakeman.
